This is a survey of chemical biology as a field, coupled with assignments requiring you to dive deeply into particular areas. You learn to present and digest scientific literature at a pace I've only encountered in this particular class so far. You also learn to draft an independent research proposal according to NIH guidelines, which is useful for any aspiring scientists.
Overview of advancements in chemical biology. How to write a grant and give a presentation.
Major topics in the field of chemical biology and the research methods employed over time in order to advance knowledge pertaining to these topics. Also how to write a research proposal that seeks to add meaningful advancement to the field.
Writing writing writing and presentation skills.
This course essentially requires that you both enjoy the details of chemistry and biology and that you're able to at least keep up with the gist of the volume of scientific literature that the class goes over. That may require multiple hours per week of independent reading depending on how foreign the subject is to you.
It would depend on the person's goals.
