Dr. White can be rude and unsupportive. Her lectures are incredibly unclear and she provides little to no guidance on experiments (wouldn't do demos when the other professors in the room do.) She grades more harshly than other Gen Chem Lab professors.
Great prof!!!! Reads a lot from the slides, but not in an annoying way! Expands a bit on every slide and is great at explaining things! It feels like she can answer any question you ask and she is so approachable and kind and understanding! Out of all the gen chem professors you can take, definitely take her! She's the best one!
Dr. Kamm was the only good thing about Gen Chem lab. She's so sweet, gives good explanations in her pre-lab lecture (including little cartoons) and is helpful in lab. She's also more flexible on printing and deadlines which saved my ass on several occasions. If you're taking Gen chem lab you're probably doing it because it's mandatory at least make your life less painful
I love Dr. J. He is an incredibly efficient and knowledgeable instructor. His pre-lab lectures are always concise and to the point, meaning that he doesn't bore you with unnecessary content. His eloquence in the lectures demonstrate his extensive knowledge of the topics he teaches. Most people dislike him because he doesn't answer questions in a direct manner. This is true, but he does it to stimulate your own learning and understanding of complex chemical concepts. This for me was very helpful in developing my skills as a chemist. And although he doesn't hand you the answer, he gives you enough hints for you to be able to confidently reach the answer on your own. I always learned more in his pre-lab lectures than in Professor Austin's actual lecture and although Dr. J is harsh, he is still incredibly friendly and approachable. I loved having him as my lab instructor, but I understand that his teaching style isn't for everyone. If you truly love chemistry and are actually interested in the material (instead of just wanting to get an A without learning anything like most pre-med students), then you will learn a lot from Dr. J and will leave the semester with a lot of respect for him as an instructor and as a scientist.
Honestly, this lab course is hard, but I absolutely love Dr. V. She is so funny and a great teacher, it's so much fun being in lab with her.
Every week there is a pre-lab quiz, pre-lab notebook prep, the lab itself, and the post-lab which is sometimes a full lab report which can be rough ngl.
Achieve problem set (10-20 questions, some of them are multi-part and very tedious, as a warning) every week, generally not super bad especially since you have an entire week to do it. Occasional in-class problem sets/worksheets that are fairly short, with a random sampling of people chosen at the end to submit theirs. Graded only for completion, basically just to take attendance.
