Lab in Molecular Biology · Biological Sciences
Most of the course involved running different types of gels for dna and protein imaging and interpreting results.
No exams, presentations, esssays and lab work
I learned to apply scientific theory and research in practice with different molecular laboratory techniques.
I was worried since upper level labs can be difficult but Dr. Sturley is so nice. He is amazing. I never felt scared or like I would be made of fun of or scorned for making a mistake (cough chem lab). He is very supportive and so interesting. Dr. Sturley is super flexible and will move exams or essay due dates for any reason. I will say that occasionally class goes over time, which is a lot as this is a lab. I was always tired coming out of the lab but never drained like in my past labs. He is very informative while being low stress. A fun class with fun experiments, there is still work. do not expect to just never do anything for lab but he is less stressful experience than the other labs I have been in, and does not grade arbitrary things.
Molecular biology techniques such as running and analyzing agarose and SDS PAGE gels, bacterial cloning, ligation and transformation, bioinformatics
Really nice array and progression through molecular biology lab techniques that lay the foundation for work in research labs etc.
Molecular biology laboratory skills (molecular cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, DNA extraction and sequencing, protein extraction and SDS-page) as well as report-writing skills.
