PHYS UN1403 · Fall 2023 · 1/5

The content of the class is really interesting and applicable for engineers especially, but please spare yourself the pain and confusion of taking a class with this lecturer. The class is very poorly organized with topics being dropped into lecture that are only tangentially related to the content. There is no effort put in to illustrating how to solve or think about the problems within the course, frankly it is just the lecturer doing a show-and-tell two days a week about stuff he thinks is cool. If you take this class YOU WILL TEACH YOURSELF. If you're already in the 1400 track, just keep reading the textbook the class is supposed to follows chapters >35. If possible, please take the 2600 track of this course instead, it will be harder but you will learn and not have to play catch up as much. Also, if it matters, it will probably make you enjoy physics more.

PHYS GR8083 · Fall 2022

This course will be interested to people who are new to the condensed matter physics as well as to those who are familiar with the covered topics 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2022 Course: PHYSGR8083_001_2022_3-CONDENSEDMATTERPHYSICSII : PHYSGR8083_001_2022_3 - CONDENSED MATTER PHYSICS II Instructor: Abhay Narayan Pasupathy

PHYS UN1403 · Fall 2023

I learned some physics, but mostly I learned how to handle and navigate through the most disorganized and convoluted class I have ever taken.

PHYS UN1403 · Fall 2023

Introductory ideas relevant to classical waves and quantum mechanics, independent problem solving, contextualizing physics in history.

PHYS UN1403 · Fall 2023

Understanding quantum physics through both a quantitative and qualitative manner

PHYS UN1403 · Fall 2023

Discussed some concepts of waves in physics but didn't really learn much new stuff (after taking 1401 and 1402)

PHYS UN1403 · Fall 2023

That curiosity is more important than merely being a good student

PHYS UN1403 · Fall 2023

the history of quantum physics and wave physics

PHYS UN1403 · Fall 2023

I did not learn much during this class. I learned a little bit about wave equations at the beginning of the semester, but it was really hard to pay attention because the lectures were not at all engaging. Professor Uemura did not even present the lectures live, but rather played recordings of him reading from the textbook. The examples given were not interactive, and we did not get to see him actually work through the problem, but simply read from steps given in the textbook.

PHYS UN1403 · Fall 2023

My guess is that the entirety of the class roster consists of people for whom Physics 1403 is a requirement, so good luck!
