It was a very good language course where there was both challenging difficulty and a supportive and understanding environment, so it allowed for great learning without intense pressure. I learned more about Russian/Soviet politics and language used to discuss sociopolitical issues.

Recommend this course to students that have a comfortable base with Russian grammar and who are not afraid to speak. Writing is important, but this class is designed to help enhance speaking. Try to allow for students to lead more of the classes. Allowing students to give presentations back to back to back can be tiresome and not as effective. Reading comprehension, dramatically improved writing skills, also historical and cultural perspectives!

We further solidified our oral and written skills in Russian, with especial focus on participles, adverbials, and complex syntax.

Beyond grammar, I learned how to construct complex arguments and give presentations in a foreign language. Working in groups also helped to develop leadership skills, and I also learned to more closely listen to the views and perspectives of my peers in order to critically evaluate their arguments in a foreign language. Therefore, my ability to process increasingly complex information in Russian was enhanced over the course of this semester. I was also exposed to different cultural perspectives and practices through the use of related materials in classroom exercises and assignments.

This course covered advanced Russian language concepts. We dealt with complex grammar like participles, negation, and numerals. We also dealt with relevant topics including modern Russian politics and economics, which challenged us to use more advanced grammar and vocabulary. We also engaged with Russian media in the form of televsion and poetry.
