This course seeks to introduce the sweep of Tibetan civilization and its history from its earliest recorded origins to the present. The course examines what civilizational forces shaped Tibet, especially the contributions of Indian Buddhism, sciences and literature, but also Chinese statecraft and sciences. Alongside the chronological history of Tibet, we will explore aspects of social life and culture.
A lot on the general history and traditions of Tibet and Buddhism. Overall structure, about the Dalai Lamas and region.
A broad base exposure to Tibetan history and civilization ranging from its inception to today.
Grading is chill, the class focuses on more learning instead of exams. Homework is fair and interesting, a lot of freedom to choose topic.
I would HIGHLY recommend this course, as it's a great global core that gives a broad introduction to Tibetan civilization and history throughout the ages. Take this for a GLOBAL CORE!!
