This course is broad and covers a wide range of geologic topics from hydrology to minerals. The material is a general introduction to lots of different fields and is focused more on qualitative understanding than technical. My highlight of the class was a fieldtrip that we took to look at different rock formations outside of the city.

I learned about the fundamental mechanics of glaciers starting with basic physical concepts. I also learned about relevant numerical modelling and data analysis skills.

I learned a decent amount about glaciology topics regarding ice flow, ice sheet structure and dynamics, etc. and learned quite a bit about modeling and numerical analysis, which I found to be super interesting and useful.

This course was very helpful for acquiring knowledge of the important concepts in glaciology and the skills to run/develop numerical models for analyzing data. The classical and latest papers, observations, modelling results, and the underlying physics mechanisms introduced in the lectures all greatly deepened my interest in glaciology. In practical sessions, I learned not only the programming skills, but also how to interpret the simulation results, which were very helpful for my research.
I gained a huge appreciate for the world around me. I learned so much about the history of the Earth and the systems that allow us to live on it.
