Attendance/quizzes 15%, experiment thing (3 page descriptive paper basically) 10%, midterms 45% (15% each, 3x, multiple choice), final 30 to 75% (if you did better you could replace your midterms). you could also earn back a certain amount of points that you lost on midterms.

I learned alot about what goes into a research study, and also analysis/peer review. The course was very detailed and thorough in describing all of the pieces that are necessary when conducting a research study.

agreed this man is the goat. definitely the best introductory psych prof you could choose. it is a 200 person class where attendance is mandatory and tracked w/ ur phone bluetooth, but that felt okay. his greatest quality is that he is SO CLEAR about expectations. not only is he a great explainer (from someone especially scared of the science part of neuroscience), but he also color coded all his slides into key vocab, definitions, explanations, and extra not-on-exam stuff. before every midterm there's practice problems, a list of learning objectives, and a list of vocab to know in addition to the class slides. all the midterms are multiple choice and each had one double sided cheat sheet. for the final we could bring two whole pages (four sides). averages for first two mt were like B+ and A, then the third had a B- average, but then the final avg was pretty high again. final class avg was high. also he plays queen and hannah montana videos before class. i do think that because he is new to teaching (this was his first term) he's still working on the difficulty balance of his class (like the first two mt were a bit easy and the third a bit hard and then the final too easy again) but i thought it was a great class.

Midterm Exams (45%) (3 exams, 15% each) Cumulative Final Exam (30%) Participation (15%) Experiment Analysis (10%) Final exam section grades override the adjacent midterm grades. This means you could literally choose to not take any of the midterms and ace the final and walk out with an A+. Pretty sure he'll have to tighten up the grades a bit (our section had really high grades, final average was a 92.5%, with a 25% quartile of 87.5% and a 75% quartile of 96.3%). DO THE CHAPTER QUIZZES IN THE TEXTBOOK FOR EXAM REVIEW. Read the textbook if you want to. It helps but it takes a long time. Grading Scale: A+ > 98, A = 93 - 98, A- = 90 - 93, etc

Broad overview of topics in psychology, required SONA experiment participation. Professor Thorp is the kind of professor that you just know will have a gold nugget by the end of his tenure here. A very chill, laidback professor who does care about student feedback and works to update his course accordingly. If you're going to take Sci of Psych, take it with him-- hands down.

Weekly at-home quizzes, 4 exams in total, as well as some experiential reflections. A little tedious with all the vocabulary to memorize, but it's manageable as well as just being the nature of the class.

This course was probably the best deep dive into scientific methods I’ve ever had. Professor Thorp made the material tangible and engaging, allowing us to master skills like R coding and experimental design effectively.

Professor Thorpe is fantastic. Gets you excited about the material, and his dad jokes make attendance worthwhile (Even though you have to with Attendance Radar). 10/10 recommend
