Tamil alphabet, foundational grammar, reading, writing, and speaking skills.
Professor Ramesh is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and is very approachable. The class has an appropriate pace and I feel like I learned a lot from it. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2024 Course: MDESUN1401_001_2024_3-ELEMENTARYSANSKRITI : MDESUN1401_001_2024_3 - ELEMENTARY SANSKRIT I Instructor: Jay Ramesh
Jay is a caring, attentive, and knowledgeable professor. I've rarely asked a question that he didn't have a logical answer for -- "why" are certain conjugations/definitions the way they are, what is the origin of a particular phrase, etc. His perspective as a non-native speaker is also something that I related to as an American, and I feel like it helps him explain complex grammatical concepts in a more theoretical way. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2024 Course: MDESUN1101_001_2024_3-ELEMENTARYTAMILI : MDESUN1101_001_2024_3 - ELEMENTARY TAMIL I Instructor: Jay Ramesh
Over the last semester, I gained a much better understanding of reading, writing, and speaking in Tamil. I came into this course rather self conscious about my Tamil abilities, my this course allowed me to further develop and gain more confidence using them.
I really enjoyed the class, but (this is probably on me) it was more difficult than I had originally expected. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2023 Course: MDESUN1401_001_2023_3-ELEMENTARYSANSKRITI : MDESUN1401_001_2023_3 - ELEMENTARY SANSKRIT I Instructor: Jay Ramesh
Learned how to read, write, speak, and listen to Tamil very well.
It's really rewarding and a fascinating language, and Jay is fantastic 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2022 Course: MDESUN1401_001_2022_3-ELEMENTARYSANSKRITI : MDESUN1401_001_2022_3 - ELEMENTARY SANSKRIT I Instructor: Jay Ramesh
