We worked on projects in NLP and Image Processing, in collaboration with the IBM Data Science Elite team. We really covered a lot of ground here, but I appreciated that it was extremely self-directed, and we were allowed to go as fast as we wanted to; we ended up working on very advanced material, including topic models that weren't covered on most class syllabi, and state of the art contrastive learning models.

Need improvement in core team delivery to the supporting team clearly on what they need to do.

Nearly nothing compared to other courses

The course teaches nothing and the professor seems just filling her working hours.

New coding packages, a lot of new industry-specific knowledge and background, how to analyze and interpret results on data that perhaps I do not understand but those who read the findings will. More familiarity with python. How to manage disappointing team dynamics in a grad-level course

Class time spent working on projects might be more valuable than lectures. Having to organize several hours of coding and coordination outside of class time, in addition to time meeting with focal points for the outside group, made this class a large commitment. Class was often cancelled or moved online last-minute, which was an issue if you were already mid-commute. The prof was not involved in the projects, and the team I was in had several issues that we had to resolve ourselves (e.g., copying others' code and models line for line and presenting it to a major organization as their own) that probably wouldn't have happened if team members felt they were actually being held accountable by the course. This course was a joke... We have not receive the database (that we were supposed to work on during the semester) only in the last three weeks... We did not get any assistance or training. If you are not part of the core team the whole course is useless.
