Intro to Second Level Probability topics: Random Variable Distributions, Hypothesis Testing, Regression

Dobrin Marchev · 2026 · 2026

I learned about the foundations of probability from a more mathematically rigorous framework than I had before, and began learning about inference and statistics using that framework. I also learned about what details in this material are and aren't especially relevant for a Data Scientist to understand at an especially deep level, with us skipping over some details that were less relevant for us compared to hardline statisticians.

learned about different distributions and hypothesis testing

Dobrin Marchev · 2026 · 2026

the basics of PDFs, CDFs, then CIs and Regression and hypotheses - -

The material is covered in my undergrad course and I successfully waived this course. But I think taking it is not a bad idea as it can balance workload. This course help me go through prob and stats (really basic) that I probably not really remember after last time taking them. It also help you re-catch the knowledge for 5703.

Probability and stats skills that are asked on interviews too.

Dobrin Marchev · 2026 · 2026

This course was a great refresher for me. I took Probability and Statistics I & II as part of my undergraduate work but this course has done a great job relating the topics to data science. Core topics were explained in detail and have built up and applicable to the closing topic of linear regression.

Dobrin Marchev · 2026 · 2026

nothing really, perhaps the fact that sitting probability lectures and doing problem sets are boring

Dobrin Marchev · 2026 · 2026

It is the foundation of the field of Data Science - without understanding probability, you won't ever really understand the rest of the field to any real and meaningful depth.

This course was very well taught, and I think Dobrin really explained the material very well. The materials were gone through in a very manageable pace - I loved this course!
