readings can range from a short story (a few pgs) to a few chapters of a long novel (100 pgs). his grading system (he will explain it) makes this manageable though--you don't have to write a homework response for every class reading responses + short paper + midterm + [short paper + final OR long paper]
take this class! prof wright is super engaging and accommodating. the selected readings are awesome. no prior knowledge of russian lit is required! he also provides lecture notes for each class which is helpful for missed classes or studying (although if you come to class and do the readings for the most part, you'll be fine on the midterm and final)
Workload is light, just readings, a short response due before each class, and typical short paper + test for midterms and finals. He also has a couple pages of notes printed for each class, so you can follow along easily and understand main themes, grammatical analysis, etc. He’s an easy grader!
Professor Wright is a true gem of a lecturer. He’s one of those professors who loves what he teaches and what students think about the material, so if you participate at all he gets very excited. I felt like I learned a lot, even with works I had read before in previous classes.
