A Political Introduction to the Christian Scriptures · Religion
How to apply a biblical analysis to political figures and the political policies they attempt to push into American society.
I learned a lot more about New Testament scriptures, how we should read them, and their reception throughout time and especially today.
This course is extremely valuable insofar as it gives the keys to understand how Christianity shifted from a radical ethos aiming at revolutioning how the society did work to something very different, a set of belief upheld by a hierarchical institution which has supported the most conservative regimes that existed in the Western world since Constantine's reign during the IVth century. It is also a useful introduction to the New Testament texts I was really happy to discover.
Historical background of the Gospels/New Testament books and their contexts, ways the scriptures have been twisted, historical information on the authors
Dr. Hendricks is a very passionate professor who always asks tough questions that really make you think about how important it is to analyze the bible in its context and how it affects American society now
I think the course content was fascinating, and definitely carries my recommendation, but I wouldn't recommend it in terms of the organization/requirements of the course, which again, continue to be unclear.
I struggled with my religion and took this course to get to the "true meaning" of the New Testament (or as close as I could), and I feel as if I got a very clear picture of the New Testament and what is actually said - and the weight of those words - through this course 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2024 Course: RELIGU4376_001_2024_3-APoliticalIntroductiontotheChristia : RELIGU4376_001_2024_3 - A Political Introduction to the Christia Instructor: Obery Hendricks
