I do not think this course is worth 2 credits. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Spring 2021 Course: QMSSGR5022_001_2021_1-RESSEMINQUANTMTHS-SOCSCIII : QMSSGR5022_001_2021_1 - RES SEM IN QUANT MTHS-SOC SCI II Instructor: Gregory Eirich

I learned some research methods and what kind of research QMSS alumni do once they graduate.

Gregory Eirich · 2026 · 2026

I felt like a learned very little; there was a little bit about different methodologies for quasi-experimental research and a few ways to simulate randomization, but most of the speakers focused on their own particular findings which feels less interesting and engaging. It also feels like the class is overly focused on professional development, but not in a particular focused way.

Gregory Eirich · 2026 · 2026

I enjoyed learning about alumni's research and things to consider in pursuing / writing a research article. As someone who doesn't come from a research or quantitative background prior to coming to QMSS, I appreciate the exposure to how research is conducted. I also appreciated the assignments to improve our "brand", express things succinctly, and how to network.

Gregory Eirich · 2026 · 2026

Industry applications of the quantitative and experimental methods learned in the program.

Gregory Eirich · 2026 · 2026

A bunch of research presentation, covering a wide range of topics. Good course to communicate & network with alumni and classmates. Very light workload.

Gregory Eirich · 2026 · 2026

lots of research papers and data analysis
