Scope and Methods - Disc · Political Science
I learned how to create accurate experiments, gather relevant research, conduct reliable surveys, and use R-studio, which gives me great in-depth knowledge and reasoning.
In this course, I learned how to code in R (at a basic level), learned various research methods, types of experiments, the differences between them, basic and intermediate statistics
If you can get Peyton Cordero as your TA, absolutely do so. Best discussion section I have had at Columbia.
I did not learn anything from my TA, which makes my semester very hard.
A great great deal. To be frank, the professor's course was alright, but almost everything I learned, I learned in discussion sections with my TA Peyton Cordero. She not only tailored the material to our individual needs and met us where we needed to be met, but she took us further than we otherwise would have been. I have learned how to effectively use R and perform various functions therein. I have also learned the fundamentals of conducting research studies and how to craft questions and studies that are effective and highly accurate. I must stress, this is truly due to the relatability, flexibility, and enthusiasm that Peyton brought to the discussion sections.
I took this as a required class, I would not recommend this class to someone who is not a Poli Sci major with the need to fulfill the requirements because it seems that there may be better classes to suit your needs. However, I would absolutely tell a Political Science Major to take this course because the way that it was taught and the kindness of the TAs and Professors made the learning easy (especially in comparison to some of the other research oriented classes).
I learned more or less what was going on in class and how to apply it. Peyton is a great TA
I do not recommend this course to anyone 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2023 Course: POLSUN3722_003_2023_3-SCOPEANDMETHODS-DISC : POLSUN3722_003_2023_3 - SCOPE AND METHODS - DISC Instructor: Oswaldo Mena Aguilar
This course taught us how to make substantive interpretations about data generated from R studio and how to apply cumbersome theories and concepts into our own research design.
how to use R; how to draw conclusions from data; how to interpret the numbers provided by programs or research reports
