I learned so much in this course. Everything from governing international trade, to allocating resources efficiently, to negotiating prisoner's dilemmas. Probably the single course at Columbia in which I learned the most. I really really recommend this course to everybody interested in international political economy.
We learned about global tarde, foreign direct investment, migration, monetary policy/exchange rates, and environmental international cooperation. From a skill perspective, we learned how to analyze real world scenarios and provide policy recommendations based on the data provided.

GGE is a fascinating course that covers a wide range of topics related to the governance of the global economy. Throughout the semester, we delved into the politics of trade, investment, monetary policy, immigration, and environmental policies, using various theoretical approaches and examining historical and contemporary evidence and Professor Gaikwad ad the TA's did an absolutely lovely job of ensure that these topics that were not something I had encounter in an academic way yet were manageable and understandable. What I particularly appreciated about this course was the emphasis on policy-relevant case studies. We were able to apply the concepts we learned to real-world situations and evaluate the effectiveness of different economic policies. The course format was lecture-based, but there were also opportunities for discussion and group work, which I found engaging and thought-provoking. Overall, I found The Politics of the Global Economy to be a challenging but rewarding course. The course content was both comprehensive and relevant, and the delivery was engaging and informative. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in understanding the complexities of the global economy and the politics that shape it.
I learnt A LOT. In a good way, this is probably the most intense polisci class I’ve ever taken, as I have learnt about such essential topics that I know I will use in the near and far future. I think it was very important that I take this class, considering the fact that I’ve only ever taken one Econ class
You will cover many topics in international political economy, from the monetary system, to migration, to the economics of climate change. You will complete case studies on 5 of these topics and engage in debate.
