The course is very reading heavy but grading (at least with my TA) was generous. A large part of the grade is dependent on memorization which is present in both the midterm and the final. Midterm (1 essay and 10ish terms) and final (2 essays and 15ish terms).
I really enjoyed the course. Professor Rose is very charismatic and entertaining making lectures actually worthwhile. The lectures are also recorded. The syllabus is well laid out if not a bit excessive if your only goal is to get through the class, although the readings were pretty cool.
two quizzes, midterm, and final. the IDs take up a very significant amount of your grade, but grading is pretty light.
Really cool class, especially with the guest speakers who come in in the second half of the class. Wasn't a huge fan of the AI-generated summaries for the ID terms we had to memorize and spit out for the two quizzes, midterm, and final, but they did make getting a good grade pretty easy. He's an engaging lecturer with a lot of strong opinions, and I definitely came away from this class with a solid understanding of the topics covered. Would recommend for one of the intro polisci classes.
More on the difficult side. All grading is completely based on the TA which can make outcomes a little unfair. Do not go into this class expecting an A but definitely possible if you have a good TA

Readings before every class (took me about 1-1.5 hours generally before each lecture), 2 quizzes on IDs, midterm exam, + final exam. Different TA discussion sections also had different requirements on presentations, my section only had to give a 5-minute presentation on a current event/news article
Very interesting class that provides base-level information that everyone should know about foreign policy and international affairs. He's an engaging lecturer and he brought on several guest speakers at the end which was fun. My TA was Rene Yaroshevsky and he was great! Def recommend, whether a polisci major or not
Two quizzes on definitions, midterm paper and a final. Grading depens fully on your TA.
(I took POLS 1612 BC). The lecture is great if you are interested in politics and have some background in it. If neither apply to you, it might not be the best class for you. Professor Rose is very very knowledgeable in politics and has a lots of real world politics experience and I went to almost all office hours cause he’s super intersting to talk to. His lectures are sometimes very fun, he brings in guest speakers - experts from different areas, and sometimes they are just lectures. All of them are recorded so it’s great to be able to watch if you skipped. Class experience really depends on your TA for the discussion, they grade your papers (some much more harshly than others) and break down concepts, so do research on TAs before choosing.
