Bj Casey is one of the nicest professors I’ve ever had. Her class is really engaging and she seems to care a lot about the students. She’s insanely overqualified to teach this class, but she does it because she wants to and it really shows.
The professor was pretty fair. He recorded and posted all his lectures. His exams were pretty straightforward if you reviewed all the material that he covered in class. He also allowed us to have one index card to assist during the exam. He encourages reading the textbook but not needed. He offered a small creative project for extra credit.
Grade based on 4 exams. Memorization-heavy. Casey would dedicate the instruction day before an exam to review what would be on the exam. The final exam was cumulative, but had more questions focused on the final unit. Attendance was never required, but it was tracked, allowing Casey to investigate any correlation between attendance and individual exam performance.
There are 3 exams, 1 final, 1 quiz, 1 essay, and 1 extra credit opportunity. It sounds like a lot but it isn't that bad at all. His tests are usually 40 questions, half point each. I think his tests are pretty fair game.
BJ Casey is genuinely passionate about neuroscience, and it's evident! Even during this early morning section, her teaching style was designed to help you learn the content that would enable you to pass the exams. The TAs (Rosa, David, and Rachel) were also very helpful and genuinely knowledgeable about the coursework and content. This class provided an introduction to neuroscience that has sparked my interest in pursuing this field. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Professor White isn't as bad as everyone claims him to be. He is organized with his slides. He makes an effort to create summary slides at the end of each lesson. He uses his slides to guide his lecture. The content of the course is also interesting. He responds quickly to emails and makes an effort to answer student questions. If you do your part as a student, you will do well in the class. Definitely manageable to get a good grade.
We were given 4 exams including the final, weighed pretty equally (20-25%~) all multiple choice and true to her slideshows and the textbook, but definitely more leaning towards the slides. I studied maybe 4 hours a week in her class and skimmed by with a B. You could definitely get an easy A in this class, I just slacked off a bit.
