I learned how to work in a group to complete problems, how to prove problems and pay close attention in lecture.

From short to really (&*ing long, typically on the longer side. But then, this depends on your proficiency with the material as well.
Weekly p-sets (~10 hours including typing it up) - 10 in total; 1 in-class midterm; 1 in-person final. Fair amount of work for a proof-based math class. The p-sets are well-designed and really helps you to understand the topics. The midterm and final were on the easier side.
It really depends on you/your experience level. This class could be anything from a living hell to a reasonably difficult intro math course. First semester, I got a B. Hoping for an A-/A second semester. HW: For some people, especially first semester, the problem sets took a very long time... not necessarily because the concepts were too difficult, but because it's so easy to get confused/lost in the notation. It's funny how proofs, supposedly so objective and logical, becomes almost an art form where one just has to 'know what to do' to prove something. But in general, these homeworks took forever for me. EXAMS: They were significantly easier and much more straightforward than the problem sets, covering the core elements of the topic at hand (linear algebra or calculus) along with a proof or three. If you work to understand everything in the problem sets (which takes quite a bit of work), the exams won't be bad. FINALLY, I'm going to give unsolicited advice because I can: For those of you crazy enough to sign up... if you're feeling lost in this class... 1. Go to the math help room. Find a helpful TA (some of the guys/gals in there are helpful, some aren't). Don't let the TA's sometimes pejorative nature defer you. It's most likely the language that's blocking you, not the concept, and as soon as you understand it you'll probably also think that the concept isn't very hard. B…

I learned about linear algebra from a rigorous proof-based perspective during this course. We focused on set theory, vector spaces, matrices, and other key topics in linear algebra.
