Standard for other Japanese classes: daily quiz, homework is pretty standard / light, three exams but all take-home.
Daily Quiz, usually 30min or less of HW a night, except for weekends when kanji is assigned. 4 exams, 1 midterm, and 1 final. 2 oral examinations per semester.
10-15 vocab words each day. 10-20 kanji per week. Daily homework that takes 5-10 minutes. Daily quiz that takes about 10 minutes. 2 midterms, 1 final; all takehome
Standard across the dept. 10-15 vocab per day, 5-7 kanji per day, grammer quiz every 3 units, 2 midterms (take home), spoken oral final (on zoom) and take home final. Grading is heavily influenced by participation, attendance, and courseworks pre-class quizzes, so everyone gets a pretty good boost.
Homework - Daily (1 to 2 hours on average) Quizzes - Daily (short and easy, we're basically given the exact material to study in advance) Tests - Four throughout the term (plus the departmental midterm & final) Blog postings - We're supposed to do two a month.... just do these early/on weekends so they're fun and not chores Language lab - Weekly, one hour of relatively easy and painless speaking & convo Overall - Heavy, but probably no different from the other sections
Standard for a Japanese class, but Sato's pretty lenient- he made some of our assignments optional. Tests every other week, midterm/final, so on and so forth.
Tatsumi-sensei is extremely organized, helpful and quick-witted. His Japanese classes are always fun to go to and he explains everything so clearly that you barely need to study for the tests. He is always willing to answer questions, replies to emails quickly and goes to great lengths to help students advance. I do hope that he could loosen up a little bit at times because he obviously has a more humorous side to his usual serious self. He is pretty strict on absences and deadlines so try not to mess up with him. All in all, Tatsumi-sensei is a great instructor and definitely my favorite Japanese teacher so far. You will learn so much and have so much fun! Give him a gold nugget or at least a silver one.

朴先生大好き！ Seriously Park-sensei is the best. She's super laid back, is very intent on explaining the material to you, grades very fair, and makes sure that you know what you need to. If you have a choice, choose her.
Eguchi Sensei is a great professor. Classes are relaxing and fun. As long as you do the necessary studying for homework, the class is a breeze and yet you learn a lot. The workflow is set up in a very easy to conquer way. You learn a new grammar point along with some vocab for homework. You spend the next 1-2 classes reviewing the grammar + vocab, then you take the quiz. As long as you do the homework and come to class, these daily quizzes are free points. Eguchi Sensei is very easy to approach and responds to emails on the same day or the next day.
