I read a book I hadn't read before. I also learned how to give feedback more effectively.

Very little. Reading the book is very insightful, although the framework of the course did not allow me to learn anything else than I would learn on my own.

How to apply theoretical foundations learned at Columbia to my practical skills.

I enjoyed reading my book and think of the many ways its content could be applicable to my field of work.

In this course, we were given the space to think deeply and independently about a text of our choosing (either from the core curriculum or an adjacent/self-selected text of equivalent level). We were then given a format to break the text down into sections and suggested prompts and questions to use as inspiration to examine the text in comparison with our work outside of the classroom (internships, jobs, volunteer work, etc.). I loved the guided format, which gave me ideas for approaching deeper study of other future texts. Since all the students work with different books, but we're all in conversation with each other on the discussion boards, so it also introduced me to themes and ideas from new and different works that I've yet to read myself.

I learned that while many of my fellow classmates were working or taking part in internship that I thought were barely relatable, we were able to find some sort of common ground between STEM and libereral arts students - even if the common ground is only 1 inch.

You will forgert about this class if you're not careful. It is an easy A, but I still find it usesless. I only had to take it because I am an international student who needs it in order to resume internship.

There is very little interaction and the interaction allowed is not timely.

Professor Rhodes is a very patient educator who takes the time to thoughtfully discuss academic questions with her students.

Prof Ramsey is probably one of the most caring - but "strict" in terms of following instructions and meeting deadlines - she has all her students introduce themselves and then we get paired off into discussion groups with people you'd never believe you could never have anything in common with and then you find very much find that others in entry level positions are struggling in ways similar to you and you look forward reading the discussion board each week, becoming part of a weekly routine.
