A useful survey of Qing history. I particularly enjoyed Professor Zelin's attention to economic history, which has been comparatively lacking in my study of China's history to date. The readings that she assigned were all excellent and I gained a lot from going through her selection of papers/resources.

I learned about the late Ming, and early-late Qing dynasties in imperial China, from 1600 to the early 1900s. We learned about famous wars, famous emperors, famous movements, famous rebellions, and everything else in between. We also looked at art and scholarship from this period.

Lots of historiographical debates about the history of modern china that you wouldn't get in a 1-2000 level class.

This class provided me with a rich, nuanced and comprehensive understanding of the Qing dynasty; the Chinese state and polity under the dynasty; Chinese demographic, economic and cultural trends during that period; and other topics.

Some stuff about the Qing dynasty. The professor is great but the course is rather boring unless you have a particular interest in Qing China.
