What students said

Raju Tomer · 2026 · 2026

Concepts and design of microscopy techniques.

Raju Tomer · 2026 · 2026

Got a great understanding of various types of microscopy and the fundamentals of opttics

Raju Tomer · 2026 · 2026

I feel that I have learned basically everything I need to know about the theory of microscopy.

Raju Tomer · Spring 2021 · 2026

Highly recommend for those who use microscopes a lot. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Spring 2021 Course: BIOLGU4290_001_2021_1-BIOLOGICALMICROSCOPY : BIOLGU4290_001_2021_1 - BIOLOGICAL MICROSCOPY Instructor: Raju Tomer

Raju Tomer · 2026 · 2026

Microscopy design, use and various kinds of microscopy techniques to solve different problems

Raju Tomer · 2026 · 2026

Learned about how microscopes work and the optical components which can affect the resulting image captured. It was helpful to understand how to alter settings when I am using a microscope to get the best image results.

Raju Tomer · 2026 · 2026

Fundamental principles of various microscopy techniques and their implementation

Raju Tomer · 2026 · 2026

I learned about the basics of various light microscopy techniques. You learn both the technical and practical aspects of of microscopy.

Raju Tomer · 2026 · 2026

It's highly useful for any researcher doing a lot of microscopy.

Overall this class was fine, but it had its issues which I think could have easily been solved with minimal effort. The lectures should have been recorded for students who couldn't attend class. This was offered for every other class I took this semester and the lectures for this class were 100% slides so it would have been very easy to do. The exams were also not great. We were expected to memorize optical pathways which is, in my opinion, not a reasonable request, especially given that we were not told to memorize those optical paths. The midterm and presentations we did were also not graded until the last class period (or later with the presentations) which is terrible considering that is 70% of our grade that we just don't know the entire semester. All in all, it was a fine course and if you're really into microscopy it really gets into the weeds, but the structure and operation of the course could really be improved upon. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Spring 2022 Course: BIOLGU4290_001_2022_1-BIOLOGICALMICROSCOPY : BIOLGU4290_001_2022_1 - BIOLOGICAL MICROSCOPY Instructor: Raju Tomer
