I learned about collecting raw data from proteins in samples, using mass spectrometry equipments. We learned how to convert raw data into other file extensions using a computer, search in databases to compare the data collected in the lab to the data uploaded into known Proteomic databases.
I recommend this course to any student who is interested in learning Proteomics in a practical manner rather than reading theory without practice.
The grading for this class is pretty strict, so I would not recommend it unless GPA is not relevant for you.
I learned very little. Most of the time, Dr. Brown simply lectured for hours, and hands-on experience with the actual technique was minimal, as well as repetitive. The assignments are not decided to facilitate critical thinking or understanding, merely rote following of the instructions actually the way he wants it.
The course is designed so that you are hypothetically learning Proteomics laboratory techniques; however, I did not learn anything. I just learned that something called Proteomics exists but I do not feel comfortable doing any type of research on it.
