In my lab, I've only mainly gained technical skills to perform experiments. This course really trained me to have the critical mind of a scientist scientist. I gained the skill of being able to deeply analyze a paper, propose further steps and experiments, and defend my proposal
I learned about cellular process, and ways we can observe and study cellular interactions.
Probably the most important thing I got from this course is an intuitive sense of scale, in time and space, when it comes to cellular processes. Select cellular processes and organelles were covered in some detail, but a fair amount of subject matter was glossed over in favor of shoving us all off the deep end into the big scary world of original research articles. I think the experience of being forced to critically evaluate original research was invaluable, especially for those of us who are going into research careers.

I 100% recommend this course for anything who is interested in becoming a research scientist.
I wouldn’t recommend this course to working GS students. This course isn’t structured for students who can’t attend all the classes. This discriminates against working GS students; if you miss a class you may not get the information needed for the exams or the homework’s. For example; some of the equations or material covered are not on the annotated slides, which essentially prevents working students from accessing the material. Also, the way to examine and criticize a research paper wasn’t discussed in class. Also, grading rubric was not provided for the research paper reviews. Based on that, doing the assignments was like shooting in the dark.

Cell biology basics and how to (theoretically) pursue a research question/project
The course centers around cellular dynamics, does include some math and physics, and discusses how cell structures contribute to its function in detail.
