I learned about the past, present, and future of political journalism and its place in the United States. I learned how to analyze and discuss media at a high level, and I learned writing and analysis skills.

I like to think of myself as someone who is very knowledgeable about both journalism and politics, but this course showed me there's much more for me to learn. I learned so much about new innovations in the industry, the historical bases of widely established norms, the role of journalism in a liberal democracy, etc. It also became a wonderful two-hour window during which I could indulge myself in actually getting to discuss current events in a way most courses shy away from, which was such a joy.

I learnt a lot about the history of journalism as well as the role that it plays in current politics. I also learnt a lot about the midterm elections and Trump's role in the ethics of media.

The most valuable skill I feel I learned from this class was how to write longish pieces of media analysis/coverage of current political events. I really enjoyed adapting to this new style of writing, and feel that Professor Miller's feedback has made me a much stronger writer.

I would recommend this course to a student who is interested in journalism and contemporary politics, and who is interested in improving their critical writing skills.

I learned how to debate and argue with other political perspectives. It took a lot of patience! I learned a lot about the history of Journalism and how political it was (something I did not know before).

I learned not only about the relationship between traditional/independent media and American politics throughout history, but also learned how to effectively analyze this relationship in lead up to the 2024 presidential election. In class, we analyzed what constitutes biased/unbiased journalism, as well as how non-traditional media (social media, podcasts) has become popularized in the modern political arena.

A lot! I learned about the history of journalism and news reporting in the context of political campaigns. Also, how media has evolved and the trends that have led to the way we view media and news organizations as a country today. The tactics that politicians use to engage the media or isolate them from the public.
