This class was about east asian art culture. I learned many artistic features about Korea, China, and Japan.
Different ways to appreciate Asian arts; methods to conduct formal, iconographic and iconologic analyses of art work.
A lot about East Asian art, especially painting (handscrolls, hanging scrolls, etc) and vessels/sculptures (ceramics and bronze sculpture and pottery).
We learned a lot about Chinese, Japanese, and Korean history and the role of art in that history (For example, Japanese influence in Korean art because Japan controlled the Korean peninsula for awhile)
I learned a broad overview of art history in East Asia, how to discuss and analyze it in conceptual terms and how it fits into a global canon of art.
This was such a fun class. We learned about a variety of arts from China, Japan, and Korea, dating back to the neolithic age and up to nearly present day.
Development of visual traditions in China, Korea and Japan; multi-directional sources of influence between the regions.
