This was my only 4 credit course this semester but it was honestly the easiest one. Everything was open note, most of it was take-home. She straight up told me that she just wants to make it as easy as possible for people to pass the exams.

This course offered a very nuanced and alternate take of the historiography of art history. I really appreciated works highlighted including Linda Nochlin, less known texts by Panosky, Allan Sekula and Zoe Strother. We learned on how to thoughtfully construct one's sources of evidence, archive, approaches to narrative and, most importantly, problematizing the idea of globalizing the discipline.

2 take-home exams 30% Midterm + Final A good amount of work is necessary, but if you're intellectually curious, understand the readings, and interested in the subject you will do well!

Professor is not knowledgeable regarding the history of Western Art. She deals more in numbers and lines. Disappointing.

I really loved Zeynep. She's patient and will answer every question in the lecture, even if they're stupid. Her lecturing style is consice and comprehensive, I found it very easy to keep track and write notes, and she often stops and makes sure everyone is keeping up. The class itself was very interesting, and I feel like I genuinely retained much of what we spoke about. Def my favourite class of the semester.

Expanded knowledge of art historical methodologies. Thought I've take methods at both the undergraduate and graduate level before, this course was different and didn't list the methods in a typical chronology but rather critically and productively combined them with each other so that each class built on the knowledge acquired in the last. I feel much more secure and confident in my command of art historical methodologies.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class. I think it is a great survey course, that does a good job of still going in depth about architectural concepts/ theories. Professor Celik is fantastic and has created a welcoming and engaging space for students to discuss topics, despite it being a fairly large lecture class. She is clear, organized, and approachable and is happy to meet with students for office hours. I learned a lot in her class and had a wonderful time exchanging with my fellow classmates and TAs. Special shoutout to my TA Cecilia -- she is so kind, helpful and smart!

This discussion-intensive course offered a critical historiography of art history and related disciplines. It included "modules" or series of weeks on the historical epistemology of the discipline and on specific thematic lenses with methodological implications. This course helped me situate my affinities in the history and contemporary landscape of the field and encouraged me to think more critically about the practice of research and writing. The peer-review aspect of the exercises in different "genres" was very helpful in both practicing how to read and make suggestions for colleagues in different fields, and in receiving comments and writing for a scholarly but non-expert audience.

This course introduced me to foundational art historical theory and touched upon the way bodies of theory evolved in relation to historical changes. More intangibly, this course introduced me to methods for applying art historical theory in my work and writing at the graduate level.

This course exposes students to major methods and theories in the discipline. The weekly writing assignments help sharpen skills throughout the term, building towards the final paper.
