Reviewed different pieces of literature across the continents across time

Japanese history from pre-history to modern times.

We read a variety of important East Asian texts from as far back as Confucius' Analects. We studied philosophical thought, poetry, theater, novels, etc. Huge variety of different writings. With these, we learned what was happening at the time in these countries and how certain people were feeling. It was fascinating and surprising, coming from a western background myself. I really enjoyed this course.

Learned about history of japan civilization and how they evolved from early periods to modern day

Foundational texts in East Asian literature

Received a general factual survey of Japanese history and was pushed to think critically when evaluating historic events.

I learned how to read the text more deeply and find the hidden meaning within the text. I also learned how to interpret the text in different ways and support the interpretation with the context clues.

I learned in-depth about the various that shaped Japanese history and how the country changed throughout time. I learned how to compare and contrast different historical aspects across time periods.

It's good as an introduction to EALAC. I did not expect myself to enjoy this class that much (since I do not like history) but it was surprisingly enjoyable and the professor and all the teaching assistants were excellent. I learned a lot of new information that I found valuable and interesting.
