Learned and discussed many social issues in contemporary China (recent history and really modern)
A lot of interesting discussions on a wide range of social issues in China, including gender inequality, class inequality, censorship, environmental issues etc. The content discussed is up-to-date which I find very engaging and relevant
Interesting social issues in China that fly under our radar
I learned a lot! It was a very good overview of a ton of issues in Contemporary China. Topics included the Tiananmen Square uprising, to women's rights, the aging population, censorship in China, LGBTQ rights, the rural urban divide, the environment, and conflict with ethnic minorities. It felt like we covered a ton of ground but were really able to connect the issues through ideas about power and CCP party stability.
full understanding of social issues in contemporary China
This leads to a much greater understanding of problems that the Chinese state is currently facing.
If you are interested about China, then you should definitely attend this course.
This course was absolutely wonderful and I would highly recommend it. Dr. Hong Fincher does an absolute fantastic job in the discussions and curating the reading list. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Spring 2022 Course: EAASUN3310_001_2022_1-SOCIALPROBINCONTEMPCHINA : EAASUN3310_001_2022_1 - SOCIAL PROB IN CONTEMP CHINA Instructor: Leta Fincher
I would recommend it because the content is interesting, but I don't think the online version was ideal in terms of feeling engagement and motivation. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Spring 2021 Course: EAASUN3310_001_2021_1-SOCIALPROBINCONTEMPCHINA : EAASUN3310_001_2021_1 - SOCIAL PROB IN CONTEMP CHINA Instructor: Leta Fincher
