A lot of basic engineering concepts, but more importantly the engineering principles leveraged by the Romans to build their marvels. Saw a whole new perspective (art history side) of engineering accomplishments and learned valuable context regarding when, how, and why certain ancient structures were constructed.

The art of Roman Engineer is a pretty interest course considering all the factors that could affect the building process in ancient Rome. As a mechanical engineer student interested in art history, this is a really precious chance for me.

I learned on the history of Roman architecture with their symbolic meetings while also being taught on the engineering perspective.

This is a fantastic course! We need more of this sort of interdisciplinary team teaching, please. It was a joy to be in the classroom with two professors who are at the top of their fields, but who were nonetheless clearly excited to be learning as they were teaching. As an architecture student, this course provided an invaluable foundation not just in what the Romans built, but how they built it and why they did so. The knowledge I gained through this course caused me to think about my own design projects differently, and it will continue to resonate as I move forward in the field. At the same time, the course provided a valuable counterargument as to why we might *not* build the same way today, and why we might not actually want to... In short, this course was well balanced, informative, and enjoyable. If you have any interest in historic architecture or engineering, take it! You will not be disappointed.

In this course, I gained valuable knowledge about engineering concepts and planning, which were taught in a clear and accessible manner. However, the applications of these concepts in ancient Rome, while intriguing, were presented in a way that felt less absorbable, making it more challenging to fully grasp their significance or integration with the broader course material.
