I read a variety of fundamental texts from several East Asian civilizations. I felt like I gained a comfortable level of familiarity with key terms and traditions such as Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism, while also being able to explore some texts from civilizations that often receive less attention, such as South Korea, Vietnam, and the Ainu people.
The foundation of asian philosophical concepts and classics of Asian literature
An overview of major texts throughout East Asian history, from ancient China to 18th-century Korea
Because of how quickly we move through the material, I would recommend the class to people with some background knowledge of at least China and/or Japan
Great for students looking to take a class that fulfills the global core requirement. I liked the fact that some students came with a lot of knowledge about Asian cultures, but of course that is not required.
