I learn many skills to analyze materials in East Asia. They can be psychological reading, realism approach, or comparative study. In brief, this class is a perfect choice for students who want to explore East Asia texts.

East Asian History, questioning assumed assumptions about East Asian literary interpretations, learned to discuss and interpret ideas. Read a lot of amazing and important short stories. Had a really great classroom environment in which one could really delve into their thoughts and details. Allowed me to learn about myself as a learner and how to think.

I learned a lot about the literatures, Chinese/Japanese/Korean language analytics, histories, literary analytical skills, etc.

An over all introduction of East Asian literature, including different readings from three countries in East Asia. The topics of the readings also shows diversity. Different ways for analyzing literature.

I learned so much about a selection of modern literature in East Asia (mostly China, Japan, and Korea, but also Tibet, Taiwan, etc), as well as the underlying socio- political considerations that contextualized the texts. I was able to develop my writing and literary analysis skills as well, and learn how to more effectively communicate my thoughts.

This class reinforced what my mother once said to me: "You need to shut your mouth and listen to others' perspectives in order to achieve success in life." It was insightful to know that each literary work we approach has a distinct impact on each student. I forced myself to visualize others' observations and step out of my own claims in order to gain a greater understanding of the text.

In short, Prof. Estep is an excellent professor who are devoted to teaching and willing to help her students. It is a wonderful experience to take her class.
