Political Science · Columbia University
Despite this course being required for the MA degree, it was a pleasure to be part of it. I looked forward to every class and listening to the discussions. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2022 Course: POLSGR5000_001_2022_3-M.A.PROSEMINAR : POLSGR5000_001_2022_3 - M.A. PROSEMINAR Instructor: Chiara Superti
Five time consuming problem sets and “participation on poll everywhere”
I learned a lot about immigrants voting behavior and general differences about voting behavior correlated with immigration.
The course is compulsory for all MA Political Science students, so a recommendation as such is not relevant. I see value in a course as such, particularly for students who haven't had as much exposure to other subfields beyond their own. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2021 Course: POLSGR5000_001_2021_3-M.A.PROSEMINAR : POLSGR5000_001_2021_3 - M.A. PROSEMINAR Instructor: Chiara Superti
Class seems easy at first glance but was lowkey HARD AF. Never had a clue what was going on and the problem sets are graded harshly. Chiara is very sweet though.
Dr. Superti is a wonderful professor. This class is super interesting too. It really isn't hard to get an A in this class. Just work hard on your group project and study key terms and author's names a lot.
A lot about voting, migration, and expat behaviour
So easy. 5 problem sets and attendance make up the entire grade (no midterm, final or paper). They curve all of the problem sets to a B+ or A- average, so just do averagely on the problem sets and go to class and you'll get an A in the class. Problem sets are normally 1 section of R and 1-2 sections of research methods questions.
This course helped me think more about how emigrants affect the politics of their home country.
This is a pretty easy class to take to fulfill the Research methods section of poli sci. You learn how to Code R and various research methods used by political science. Chiara is super nice and a pretty engaging lecturer for how monotonous the course material can be at times. Most people get an A or B in this class. hour and 15 minute lecture twice a week plus 50 minute recitation. Would really recommend this class.
