In this Tibetan language course, I gained a comprehensive foundation in both the linguistic and cultural aspects of Tibet. Starting with no prior knowledge, I developed a broad range of skills and perspectives. Tibetan Script and Pronunciation: I learned the basics of the Tibetan script and Modern Standard Tibetan pronunciation, which was crucial for reading and speaking accurately. Grammar: I now have a good command of key grammatical constructions in modern Tibetan. This includes understanding how to form questions and answers, use possessives, apply copulas like “to be” and “to have”, and conjugate present and future tense verbs. Conversational Skills: The course enabled me to engage in basic interactions in Modern Standard Tibetan, covering familiar topics such as personal information, family, education, and local community. Cultural Understanding: An integral part of language learning is understanding the cultural context. This course provided insights into Tibetan culture, enhancing my language skills and allowing me to communicate more effectively and respectfully in Tibetan settings.
