The first things we learned about and discussed were the ethics of working with human remains. In regard to the content of the course we learned all the bones of the skull, the features of the bones, how to assess sex, how to (or if to) assess ancestry, general bone histology, muscle attachments, and some fragment work.

Matthew Palmer · 2022 · 2022

All of the omics! (Computational Genomics 2). Very much so focused on taking data from our own research and using it to answer research questions we were interested in.

Jill Shapiro · 2026 · 2026

All the bones and sutures that comprise the skull. Ethical question and issue in studying human remains. Some bone histology and many anatomical features of the human skull.

Matthew Palmer · 2022 · 2022

Independent experimental design, analysis, and trouble-shooting in bench work

Jill Shapiro · Fall 2024 · 2026

I would honestly recommend this course to people who are not just in the bio anthro field, but to archaeologists, anthropologists, and art historians more generally cause I found that actually working with the bones and engaging in conversations about ethics gave me a much better understanding of the foundations of the field and what it actually means to work with human remains. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2024 Course: EEEBUN3997_001_2024_3-INDEPENDENTSTUDY : EEEBUN3997_001_2024_3 - INDEPENDENT STUDY Instructor: Jill Shapiro

I did this to get credit for lab research, so its great if you have a good plan with your PI mentor 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2022 Course: EEEBUN3997_001_2022_3-INDEPENDENTSTUDY : EEEBUN3997_001_2022_3 - INDEPENDENT STUDY Instructor: Matthew Palmer

Jill Shapiro · 2026 · 2026

The features of all the bones in the body! (minus the skull)

Jill Shapiro · 2026 · 2026

I learned the bones of the postcranial skeleton, key features of all of those bones, and as I was only taking this for one credit, some amount of siding, fragment work, and sexing.

Jill Shapiro · Fall 2021 · 2026

you get to look at so many bones 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2021 Course: EEEBUN3997_002_2021_3-INDEPENDENTSTUDY : EEEBUN3997_002_2021_3 - INDEPENDENT STUDY Instructor: Jill Shapiro
