I was able to further my understanding of primate behavior and sexuality in this course. It was a great extension of Professor Morales-Jimenez's course "Animal Communication." Sexuality is fluid among animals and humans. I was also able to further develop my writing skills with the assigned article assessments and the final term paper as well.

I feel that I cannot fully answer this question, as the course this semester was taught by a visiting professor whose teaching did not meet the usual high standards of the department. While the subject matter is inherently interesting and has significant potential for learning, the course structure and delivery made it difficult to gain the knowledge, skills, or perspectives I had hoped to develop.

sexual biological differences, variation among primates, perspectives on sexuality and women's health

Hoang Thach · 2024 · 2024

I honestly can't say I learned very much. The syllabus and readings were very straightforward and relevant, however that became muddied by the ineffectiveness of the professor.

Alba Morales-Jimenez · 2022 · 2022

it is incredible, and i loved it. structure was great, workload was completely fair.

It's honestly difficult to put into words exactly what went wrong in this course. I think that during the beginning there was a lot of effort being put into the course by the students, including myself, who would do all the readings and take notes on them, and come to class as prepared as we could be. However, we became frustrated by how our lectures never seemed to make sense or frame the subject in a digestible way. There was a lot of back and forth, flipping between different slide shows, jumping around topics, and often the instructor would not even get to the lecture up to 40 minutes into class time. There were a lot of long-winded speeches about things that either felt irrelevant to the course or contradictory in a way that left me feeling more confused that before. I think because of this students stopped asking questions and any effort at in class discussions became impossible as no matter the answer we gave, it never seemed to be what the instructor wanted all the while his expectations remained a mystery to us. I think its important to mention that this course started as a fairly decent sized lecture and in the end only four students remained in the course, myself included, and that was only because I need the BioAnthro credits to graduate. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2024 Course: EEEBGU4350_001_2024_3-PRIMATESEXUALITY : EEEBGU4350_001_2024_3 - PRIMAT…
