I learned a lot in this class. While I had previous knowledge on conservation and biodiversity itself, I had very little knowledge about the policy surrounding conservation and how it worked. I feel that this class taught me about the different aspects of conservation policy and the history behind them. I feel that this class improved my summarization skills of scientific and legal-ish documents.
We learned about policy pertaining to conservation all the way from local to international laws amendments and agreements
I learned about conservation policy at a variety of scales (local, national, and global) and how it can impact management of different species. I also learned how conservation policy is informed by/impacts a variety of sectors.
We learned about policies regarding species conservation and the environment.
An overview of conservation policy internationally, nationally, and on the state and local levels.
I learned about the different acts and treaties governing wildlife trade and protection both domestically and internationally. I also learned about a number of case studies that illustrate the potentially fraught relationship between humans and the natural world. Additionally we got to learn about the different groups doing work to advocate for wildlife and humans adversely affected by all sorts of potential hazards and industries. We also had a number of guest speakers who provided important insight into the actual working of policy from their selected fields
This class gave me an excellent introduction to conservation policy, both in the US and internationally.
I learned about environmental and conservation-related policy both in the US and domestically, and the kind of considerations, both scientific and otherwise, that policymakers consider.
