I learned more about Korean film--the industry, individual films, and how to think about film within the context of culture and society. I also gained more perspective on Korea and Korean culture as a whole, and became a stronger writer.

I would 100% recommend this course--especially if they're keen on film and Korean film, culture, and history in particular.

I have never taken a film class before and I think this was a great way to approach that world without being overwhelmed. I have a deeper understanding of how film elements, such as camera shots, angles, and sounds contribute to the goals of the film. I have also developed a better understanding of the connection between films and the real world, with many of the films we watched offering commentary of the historical, political, and social happenings of South Korea.

I learned a lot about Korean history, particularly generational trauma and gender studies, through the context of cinema. I also learned a good deal about Korean film history and how it has shaped into the worldwide phenomenon that it is today.

I got a good survey of the literature on Korean media (film theory, cinematic production, history, etc)
