Midterm, final and weekly homework. Very easy grader almost every assignment is based off completion. As someone who was not good with foreign language, I cannot recommend this class enough.
It's a pretty chill workload, most of the time is speaking and constructing in class. 1-2 HW/Week depending on if there is a test/quiz. Very clearly notes what you're expected to know on the test/quiz.
Greatest prof of all time. Very sweet lady. If you don't take this class you are doing yourself a disservice.
It's very well structured and designed, which makes the language acquisition feel much more natural and obvious. He really enjoys teaching the subject and wants everyone to succeed.
Mostly just homework and chapter tests, which are not hard if you even just glance at the study guides. She grades very leniently and almost everything outside of tests is graded on completion. I would say maybe 1 or 2 hours a week on assignments for this class and that is a maximum.
I had no Dutch experience and Wijnie made this class very funny and interesting. Teaching style gets everyone involved and you learn very easily. The content of this course is interesting even though it is just Dutch. You will definitely have some interesting people in your class.
I think this class was easy for most people, because she gave us short, easy homework assignments. We had a chapter quiz/test about every other week. Everything was manageable and enjoyable.
Professor de Groot is an excellent teacher in that she is very open to class discussion and questions. She obviously wanted everyone to understand Dutch and improve their speaking abilities; she answered dozens of personal questions right in class. We did lots of drills and speaking exercises. The professor has a nice sense of humor and often invited us to Dutch themed events on and off campus. I enjoyed learning Dutch with her. However, due to the small class size and funding, the course felt unstructured at times, and she gave us a lot of extraneous material which she would inform us "we wouldn't have to know." This was a waste of time to me; why should we look over two dozen words on kitchen appliances if we don't need to know them? But the class was easy and enjoyable overall.
Light and breezy. Just show an interest in the class and she'll treat you marvelously. Homework for every class (very light). A few small compositions. Attendance is important, but she's lenient if you can back if up. Tests over every chapter, with her grading tending to be quite generous.
Wijnie is amazing. I only took one semester with her (because I didn't care for my classmates and, in a course like Dutch in the US, your current class is who'll have until I2) but it was a fantastic time. She's incredibly down to earth, even helping students find free textbooks because she didn't know they were so expensive! She's from The Netherlands and knows all about the culture and the language. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in actually learning this under appreciated language. Equally, if you're looking for a relatively easy way out of the language requirement, she's the way to go. Homework isn't really graded, there were no real projects, and she's very gentle when it comes to forcing in class speaking.
