Learned basics of speaking, writing, and reading Chinese (traditional characters) as well as many basic grammatical structures
many basic and common phrases and sentence structures of Mandarin Chinese. he really focuses on speaking and pronunciation, which is suuppper helpful
In the beginning of the course, we learned the basics of pinyin and how to pronounce characters (specifically cognates). As the course progressed, we learned how to write traditional characters and memorized them in order to formulate them into sentences. Each lesson focused on specific grammar patterns and specific settings. We also gained insight on Chinese culture through grammar and anecdotes provided in the textbook and in the class.
I learned the ability to speak Chinese(Mandarin) with relative fluency and write Chinese as well.
I am truly amazed at how much we learned in this semester, and I am really proud of myself for taking this course. I feel that I have built a relatively strong foundation in Mandarin, and I will carry this information forward with me for the rest of my life. It is so exciting when I can read some characters on the subway, I can talk a bit with my friend, or I pass by some people speaking Mandarin and I can understand some of what they're saying.
I've learned how to speak, understand, read, and write Mandarin Chinese.
If you are ready for the time and energy commitment of taking this class, I highly recommend it!
this class requires you to put in a lot of work if you want to succeed, but it is SOO worth the effort! Li laoshi is always there to help you if you feel like you're falling behind! he's the best prof out there!
