The class had weekly discussion posts (approximately 200 words each), a required class discussion (which involved leading a discussion of the entire lecture on one of the readings as part of a 5-6 person group), two at the time 4 page papers (one analyzing one text and the other comparing and contrasting two texts), 1 take-home final (at the time, two essay questions with required 2-page responses), and participation. I initially got the impression that the participation grade involved speaking during class discussions and leading the one discussion, though I only ever spoke about 4 or 5 times outside of the discussion I led with my group and didn’t get a bad grade for the class. The reading felt a bit hefty at times, even when I would read nearly every day, and I ended up only getting through ~70% of the total reading for the semester. That being said, I felt that I was still able to follow along and complete the requirements for the class this way. The papers felt fairly light – I’d say just start early so you don’t get overwhelmed and can think through your response, which of course pretty much applies to most college work you’d do. One thing I’d say to keep in mind is to follow the template guidelines that Dr. Kim set for the paper, as it’s not quite MLA/APA from what I’ve seen. All in all, considering that the class is 4 credits and qualifies as a Global Core requirement…
