not quiet sure i learned about Islamic architecture

Skills in terms of writing papers in an art class, correctly identifying artistic influence via images, and being able to construct arguments to locate items within a historical context. Most importantly I have a greater knowledge of the many moving parts and the tendency to simplify to make sense of which can reflect even a limit of one historian's knowledge or just a discovery not yet made. In these cases it is better to suggest rather than declare outright a menaing.

Different works of Islamic art and architecture from 700-1000 CE. We also learned about the different caliphates during this time.

The history of Islamic Art and piecing together the politics/history of the civilization with the aesthetics of the time.

I learned more about analyzing artwork, though I have taken art history courses prior to university. I learned about Islamic history from an artistic perspective, which I really appreciated because I have mostly studied political history in university. I learned about different artistic movements and the meanings behind art throughout the Islamic world, and how to recognize the nuance of the Islamic world, rather than looking at it like a monolith

This course offers a good understanding of the islamic art dynamic in the 700-1000 period.

the writing assignments are unreasonable

As much as I enjoyed the content that was talked about during lectures, I found the logistics of the class to be somewhat inconvenient. Firstly, when I had registered for the class, it was not mentioned that I had to register for a discussion section. The professor and TAs had only revealed to us about discussion sections and their timings/days two weeks into the semester. By that time, I already had a fixed schedule and could not find a convenient discussion section to join. This was especially inconvenient because I am a commuter student commuting all the way from Long Island. The only session that was available for me to take was on a Thursday, where I had no other class scheduled. However, because I commute on the Long Island Railroad, it did not make sense for me to spend up to 3 hours of travel time and $24 in train ticket prices just to only attend a 40-minute class. If discussion sections dates had been provided earlier on, during registration period, I would have been able to better manage my schedule. On top of that, I had requested (both the TA and the professor) if I could zoom in for the discussion sections considering my situation but was denied this. I wish that the department this course was under could have been more accommodating. I also found that the workload of this course is way more than any other global core course that I have taken, expecting students…
