I learned a great deal about cultures and schools of thought i was never exposed to. I understand these topics are complex so the material was frequently difficult to follow but I welcomed these new topics and enjoyed learning more

Close reading/analysis of medieval Arabic and Persian texts with weekly seminar-style discussion on each text.

Various literary texts, and the context surrounding them, as well as why they are relevant today.

I learned so much about South Asia; including, religion, social institutions, culture, and so much more.

I learned more about Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, as well as how these religions play out in East Asian literature.

This course was my first introduction into the eastern world of literature and art, and I enjoyed it immensely. It was my favorite course this semester and recommend it to anyone, regardless of major.

A lot of reading but worth it to understand the literature of the region better.

I learnt a lot the history of South Asian religion specifically Hinduism and Buddhism. I learnt how to critically read any religious or historical text. I learnt a lot about the history of writing and its importance in the indian civilization.

I know a bit more about world religions and specific texts that are important in India

We read a variety of middle eastern texts from roughly 5th century to 12th century and discussed their origins, authors, content, and impact in the time period and beyond.
